CriticalVulnerabilityCVE-2021-48014updated 25 Oct 2026, 16:35 UTC

FineReport lets unauthenticated attackers write files and run code on the server

Anyone on the internet can trick FineReport into saving a malicious web page onto the server, then open that page to take control of the server. No password is needed.

How the attack works simplified

  1. 1Unauthenticated attackerNo login or account needed
  2. 2Crafted POST requestfilePath uses ../ traversal sequences
  3. 3design_save_svg writes fileSaves outside the intended directory
  4. 4JSP webshell plantedMalicious page placed on the web server
  5. 5Remote code executionAttacker runs commands on the server
  6. ResultAttacker controls the server

What happened

FineReport 9.0's /WebReport/ReportServer design_save_svg operation does not properly restrict the filePath parameter, enabling path traversal and arbitrary file writes without authentication, including writing a JSP webshell.

Why it is dangerous: An attacker can gain remote code execution on the server, giving them full control of the system and any data it holds. Any internet-exposed FineReport server is at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run FineReport 9.0 with the /WebReport/ReportServer endpoint reachable from the network.

FineReport 9.0

What to do

  1. Restrict network access to FineReport so it is not reachable from the internet
  2. Check the server for unexpected JSP files written to web directories
  3. Obtain and apply the vendor's fixed version or official mitigation
  4. Review logs for POST requests to design_save_svg containing '../' in filePath
