What happened

A flaw in the Oracle WebCenter Sites component of Oracle Fusion Middleware allows an unauthenticated attacker to compromise the product remotely over HTTP. Successful attacks can lead to complete takeover of the system.

Why it is dangerous: A full takeover gives an attacker control over confidential content, the ability to alter what the site publishes, and the ability to disrupt service. Any internet-facing or network-reachable installation is at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run Oracle WebCenter Sites 12.2.1.4.0 or 14.1.2.0.0 and the HTTP interface is reachable by attackers.

Oracle WebCenter Sites 12.2.1.4.0; Oracle WebCenter Sites 14.1.2.0.0

What to do

  1. Check whether you run Oracle WebCenter Sites version 12.2.1.4.0 or 14.1.2.0.0
  2. Restrict network access to the WebCenter Sites HTTP interface to trusted users only until a fix is applied
  3. Apply the official Oracle Critical Patch Update or vendor fix for this CVE as soon as it is available
  4. Review logs for unusual unauthenticated HTTP requests to the server
