How the attack works simplified

  1. 1Attacker sends requestNo real login needed; uses public nonce
  2. 2Plugin route accepts pathFile path is not validated
  3. 3Arbitrary file deletedSuch as wp-config.php
  4. 4Site takeover possibleDeleted config can enable code execution
  5. ResultAttacker can run code on the server

What happened

The post_delete_assessment_file_by_id function in Acadlix LMS up to and including 1.1.9 does not validate file paths, allowing arbitrary file deletion. The route's permission check relies on a nonce the plugin publishes on every frontend page, so it effectively requires no login.

Why it is dangerous: An attacker can delete files such as wp-config.php, which can lead to remote code execution and full control of the site. Any WordPress site running the plugin with a public-facing course or quiz page is at risk.
