Langflow OSS: logged-in users can run arbitrary code on the server

Langflow is a tool for building AI workflows. A flaw lets someone with a normal login run their own commands on the server running it, because the software fails to check whether they are allowed to do that.

How the attack works simplified

  1. 1Attacker logs inUses any valid low-privilege account
  2. 2Missing authorizationLangflow does not check the action permission
  3. 3Code executionAttacker runs commands on the host
  4. ResultAttacker controls the server

What happened

IBM Langflow OSS versions 1.0.0 through 1.12.4 have a missing authorization check that allows a remote, authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code.

Why it is dangerous: An attacker with any valid account could take control of the host, reading or changing data and reaching other systems. Anyone running Langflow OSS with user accounts that can be reached over a network is at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run IBM Langflow OSS between versions 1.0.0 and 1.12.4 and users can log in to it over a network.

IBM Langflow OSS 1.0.0 through 1.12.4

What to do

  1. Check your Langflow OSS version and confirm whether it falls within 1.0.0 through 1.12.4
  2. Check the IBM security bulletin or GitHub advisory GHSA-p7mx-32v2-66mm for a fixed version and upgrade as soon as one is available
  3. Until patched, restrict network access to the Langflow instance and limit who has accounts
