  4. ResultAttacker controls the FortiSandbox device

What happened

An authentication bypass via an alternate path or channel in Fortinet FortiSandbox and FortiSandbox PaaS lets crafted HTTP requests execute unauthorized code or commands.

Why it is dangerous: Successful exploitation would give an attacker control over a security device that inspects suspicious files, and anyone who can reach its web interface over the network is at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run FortiSandbox 5.0.0 through 5.0.6, 4.4.0 through 4.4.9, any 4.2 version, or FortiSandbox PaaS 5.0.0 through 5.0.6, or any 4.4 or 4.2 version.

FortiSandbox 5.0.0 through 5.0.6; FortiSandbox 4.4.0 through 4.4.9; FortiSandbox 4.2 (all versions); FortiSandbox PaaS 5.0.0 through 5.0.6; FortiSandbox PaaS 4.4 (all versions); FortiSandbox PaaS 4.2 (all versions)

What to do

  1. Check whether your FortiSandbox or FortiSandbox PaaS version is in the affected list above.
  2. Restrict access to the FortiSandbox web interface to trusted management networks only.
  3. Watch Fortinet's official advisory for a fixed version and apply it as soon as it is released.
