CriticalVulnerabilityCVE-2026-110936updated 25 Oct 2026, 17:20 UTC

Siemens Software Center can run attacker-planted code via DLL search path

Siemens Software Center loads helper files (DLLs) from folders it searches in an unsafe order. A logged-in user on the same computer can drop a fake helper file there, and the program will run it with its own permissions.

How the attack works simplified

  1. 1Local attackerHas an authenticated local account
  2. 2Plant fake DLLWrites it to a searched directory
  3. 3Software Center startsLoads DLLs from uncontrolled path
  4. 4Code executesRuns with app's privileges
  5. ResultAttacker runs code with Software Center privileges

What happened

Siemens Software Center (all versions) loads DLLs from an uncontrolled search path, enabling DLL hijacking by an authenticated local attacker, leading to arbitrary code execution with the application's privileges.

Why it is dangerous: An attacker with a local account can gain code execution at the level of the Software Center, which can be used to escalate further on the machine. Shared or multi-user workstations and engineering systems are the most at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run Siemens Software Center, any version, on a system where untrusted or lower-privileged users have local accounts.

What to do

  1. Check the Siemens advisory for a vendor fix or mitigation and apply it as soon as it is available
  2. Restrict local logons and write access on machines running Software Center to trusted users only
  3. Follow CISA BOD 26-04 guidance to prioritize and patch this asset, and discontinue use if no mitigation exists
  4. Run forensic triage on systems with Software Center if compromise is suspected
