What happened

A use-after-free memory bug in the SVG (vector graphics) component of Google Chrome allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox via a crafted HTML page.

Why it is dangerous: Anyone who visits a malicious or compromised web page in an unpatched Chrome could have code run on their machine within the browser sandbox, potentially enabling further attacks on the user's data and session.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.47, including Chrome on ChromeOS devices on the affected LTS-150 builds listed by Google.

Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.47; ChromeOS LTS-150 builds prior to 150.0.7871.287 (Platform Version 16700.68.0) include this fix.

What to do

  1. Update Google Chrome to version 156.0.8078.47 or later
  2. On ChromeOS, install LTS-150 version 150.0.7871.287 (Platform Version 16700.68.0) or later
