How the attack works simplified

  1. 1Attacker on networkPositioned between app and server
  2. 2Traffic interceptedApp does not verify server certificate
  3. 3Fake server acceptedHostname is not checked either
  4. 4Data read or changedCommunications are modified in transit
  5. ResultAttacker reads or alters app traffic

What happened

NT OneAPP by NewType Infortech does not validate the server certificate or the hostname during connections, enabling man-in-the-middle attacks (CWE-295, improper certificate validation).

Why it is dangerous: An attacker on the local network can intercept or modify data passing between the app and its server, which may expose credentials or alter information. Users on shared or untrusted networks are most at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run NT OneAPP from NewType Infortech on any version covered by the advisory, especially on networks you do not fully trust.

What to do

  1. Check with NewType Infortech or the vendor advisory GHSA-j3f5-7crv-v65c for a patched NT OneAPP version and install it
  2. Avoid using NT OneAPP on public or untrusted Wi-Fi networks until a fix is applied
  3. Watch for unexpected certificate warnings or login prompts and do not accept them
