How the attack works simplified
- 1AttackerCrafts a malicious presentation file
- 2UploadFile is submitted to the web app
- 3IOFactory::loadLibrary reads PhpPresentation.xml from the ZIP
- 4unserialize()Attacker-controlled data becomes PHP objects
- 5Gadget chainChained objects run code or write files
- ResultAttacker controls the server
What happened
PHPOffice PHPPresentation through version 1.2.0 passes data from the PhpPresentation.xml file inside a ZIP-based presentation to PHP's unserialize() via IOFactory::load, an insecure deserialization flaw that lets attackers instantiate arbitrary PHP objects.
Are you affected?
You are affected if your application uses PHPOffice PHPPresentation version 1.2.0 or earlier and loads user-uploaded presentation files with IOFactory::load.

What to do
- Check whether your project depends on PHPOffice PHPPresentation and which version is installed
