How the attack works simplified
- 1Unauthenticated attackerNo login or account needed
- 2Crafted REST requestSends malicious 'id' value to plugin route
- 3WordPress runs validationvalidate_callback runs before permission check
- 4PHP functions invokedPipe-split tokens called as dynamic functions
- ResultAttacker executes code on the server
What happened
The 'id' parameter in the plugin's REST route is concatenated into a pipe-delimited validation rule string, which is split and each token invoked as a PHP function without an allowlist, enabling unauthenticated remote code execution. WordPress runs the route's validate_callback before the permission_callback, so the plugin's capability check is never reached.

- If no fix is available, deactivate and remove the plugin, or restrict access to its REST endpoints at the web server or firewall level
- Review the server for unexpected files, accounts, or processes if the plugin was exposed
