Frappe framework: file upload can write files outside storage folder, enabling server takeover
A logged-in user can upload a specially crafted file that gets saved to a place on the server it should never reach. This can let the attacker run their own code on the server.

How the attack works simplified
- 1Attacker logs inAny valid user account works
- 2Crafted file uploadDestination path is not checked
- 3File written outside storageLands in unintended server location
- 4Code executedMalicious file runs on the server
- ResultAttacker controls the server
What happened
Path traversal in Frappe's file-upload handling: the destination path is not validated before writing to disk, so authenticated users can write files outside the intended storage directory, leading to remote code execution.
Are you affected?
You are affected if you run Frappe before 15.121.0 or Frappe 16.x before 16.34.0 and have users who can log in.
Frappe before 15.121.0; Frappe 16.x before 16.34.0
What to do
- Update Frappe to 15.121.0 or later, or to 16.34.0 or later, depending on your branch
- Review recent file uploads and server files for unexpected or unknown files
- Restrict who can create accounts and log in until the update is applied
