How the attack works simplified
- 1Attacker sends requestCrafted data sent to the router remotely

- 3Command gets injectedInput is run as an OS command in /bin/ioos
- 4Router is controlledAttacker runs commands on the device
- ResultAttacker controls the router
What happened
A command injection flaw in the DNS Resolution Handler (function sub_41a430 in /bin/ioos) of WAVLINK WN551X3-A firmware M51X3_V251020-WO-182e965 lets remote attackers inject OS commands via the data argument.
Why it is dangerous: An attacker who controls the device can take over the router, intercept or redirect traffic, and reach other devices on the network. Anyone running this router with remote access exposed is at risk.
Are you affected?
You are affected if you run WAVLINK WN551X3-A with firmware M51X3_V251020-WO-182e965.
WAVLINK WN551X3-A, firmware M51X3_V251020-WO-182e965
What to do
- Check whether your router runs firmware M51X3_V251020-WO-182e965 and look for a vendor update
- Disable remote/internet management on the router until a fix is confirmed
