How the attack works simplified
- 1Attacker logs inNeeds valid authenticated access to the router
- 2Crafted HTTP requestSent to the boa web server's formParentControl URL
- 3Buffer overflowStack memory overwritten by oversized input
- 4Code executionAttacker code runs on the router
- ResultAttacker controls the router
What happened
A stack-based buffer overflow in the boa web server's formParentControl URL handling on TOTOLINK X2000R firmware allows arbitrary code execution via an authenticated HTTP request.
Why it is dangerous: An attacker who can log in to the router could gain full control of the device, which sits between your network and the internet, and could use it to spy on or redirect traffic on your network.
Are you affected?
You are affected if you run TOTOLINK X2000R with firmware TOTOLINK-X2000R-Gh-V1.0.0-B20250421.1327.

What to do
- Check whether your router is a TOTOLINK X2000R on this firmware version.
- Check the TOTOLINK website or your vendor for a firmware update that fixes this issue, and install it when available.
- Until a fix is available, change the router admin password to a strong unique one and restrict admin access to your local network only.
- Disable remote administration on the router if it is enabled.
