CriticalVulnerabilityCVE-2026-42023updated 25 Oct 2026, 15:22 UTC

TOTOLINK X2000R router can be taken over through its IPv6 setup page

A logged-in user of this router can send a specially crafted request that overwrites memory in the router's software, which can let them run their own commands on the device. Anyone who controls the router could then spy on or redirect the

How the attack works simplified

What happened

Multiple stack-based buffer overflows exist in the boa formIpv6Setup static network configuration handler of TOTOLINK X2000R firmware TOTOLINK-X2000R-Gh-V1.0.0-B20250421.1327, triggered via the static_ipv6 parameter in an authenticated HTTP request, leading to arbitrary code execution.

Why it is dangerous: Successful exploitation gives an attacker code execution on the router, the device that sits between your network and the internet, so they could control traffic, access connected devices, or disrupt connectivity.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run TOTOLINK X2000R with firmware TOTOLINK-X2000R-Gh-V1.0.0-B20250421.1327 and its web management interface is reachable by an attacker with valid login credentials.

TOTOLINK X2000R, firmware TOTOLINK-X2000R-Gh-V1.0.0-B20250421.1327

What to do

  1. Check whether your router is a TOTOLINK X2000R running firmware B20250421.1327 and look for a newer firmware from TOTOLINK's official support site.
  2. Install any newer firmware that the vendor has released; if none is available, restrict access to the router's web admin page to trusted devices only.
  3. Change the router's admin password to a strong, unique one and disable remote management from the internet.
