How the attack works simplified

  1. 1AttackerNo login or credentials needed
  2. 2Crafted HTTP requestSent to the /nodered endpoint
  3. 3Auth bypassAuthorization check is skipped
  4. 4Code executionAttacker runs commands on the host
  5. ResultAttacker controls the FUXA server

What happened

An authorization bypass in the /nodered functionality of FUXA version 1.3.2-2809 allows an unauthenticated HTTP request to trigger arbitrary code execution.

Why it is dangerous: An attacker who can reach the FUXA server over the network could take full control of it, which may include the machines and data it monitors. Systems exposed to the internet or weakly segmented networks are most at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run FUXA version 1.3.2-2809 with the /nodered functionality reachable from a network an attacker can access.

FUXA 1.3.2-2809

What to do

  1. Restrict network access to the FUXA server so untrusted users and the internet cannot reach it
  2. Check whether the /nodered functionality is exposed and disable or block it if you do not need it
  3. Update FUXA to a fixed release as soon as the vendor publishes one, and check the GitHub advisory for patch details
