How the attack works simplified

  1. 1Attacker on networkSends specially crafted packets
  2. 2Vulnerable interfaceBuffer overflow triggered, no login needed
  3. 3Device OSAttacker code runs with privileges
  4. ResultAttacker controls the device

What happened

A buffer overflow in an affected interface of Aruba AOS-10 allows unauthenticated remote code execution with privileged rights on the underlying operating system.

Why it is dangerous: An attacker who reaches the vulnerable interface can gain complete control of the device, which can expose or disrupt the network it manages and the traffic passing through it.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run AOS-10 on a device with the vulnerable interface reachable from untrusted networks.

Aruba AOS-10 (specific versions not stated in the available material)

What to do

  1. Check the vendor advisory for the AOS-10 version that fixes this issue and update to it
  2. Restrict access to the affected interface so only trusted management networks can reach it
  3. Monitor devices for unusual activity until patching is complete
