CriticalVulnerabilityCVE-2026-79859updated 25 Oct 2026, 16:50 UTC
AOS-8 network device can be taken over remotely without login
An attacker on the network can send a specially crafted request that makes the device run their own commands, with no password needed. This gives them full control of the device.

How the attack works simplified
- 1Attacker on networkSends crafted request, no login needed
- 2AOS-8 interfaceInput overflows a memory buffer
- 3Code executionAttacker code runs in the device
- 4Privileged accessRuns as privileged OS user
- ResultAttacker controls the device
What happened
A buffer overflow in an interface of AOS-8 allows unauthenticated remote code execution as a privileged user on the underlying operating system.
Why it is dangerous: An attacker who reaches the vulnerable interface can run arbitrary code with privileged access, potentially compromising the network infrastructure and anything it routes or protects.
Are you affected?
You are affected if you run an AOS-8 version with the vulnerable interface exposed to a network an attacker can reach.
AOS-8 (specific versions not stated in the provided material)
What to do
- Check the vendor advisory for the AOS-8 version you run and whether it is affected
- Restrict network access to the affected AOS-8 interface to trusted management hosts only
- Apply the vendor's patched AOS-8 release as soon as it is available
