AOS-10 network devices: attackers can bypass login and run commands as admin

An attacker on the same local network could skip the login check on the AOS-10 management interface. From there they could run commands on the device's operating system with full admin rights.

How the attack works simplified

  1. 1Adjacent attackerAlready on the same local network
  2. 2Auth bypassLogin check is circumvented without credentials
  3. 3AOS-10 interfaceAffected management interface is reached
  4. 4Command executionCommands run on the OS as privileged user
  5. ResultAttacker controls the device

What happened

Authentication bypass vulnerabilities in the AOS-10 affected interface allow an unauthenticated adjacent attacker to circumvent authentication controls and execute arbitrary commands as a privileged user on the underlying OS.

Why it is dangerous: A successful attacker gains full control of the affected device, which could expose the network it manages. Anyone running AOS-10 with this interface reachable from an adjacent network is at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run AOS-10 with the affected interface reachable by an adjacent (same local network) attacker.

AOS-10 (specific versions unknown)

What to do

  1. Check the vendor advisory for the AOS-10 version that fixes this issue and update to it
  2. Restrict access to the affected management interface to trusted administrative networks only
  3. Monitor the device for unexpected logins or commands until patched
