CriticalVulnerabilityCVE-2026-79872updated 25 Oct 2026, 16:50 UTC
AOS operating system can be taken over remotely without a password
A flaw in the core operating system of AOS lets someone outside the network run their own commands on the device without logging in. That gives them full control of the device.

How the attack works simplified
- 1Remote attackerNo login or account needed
- 2Crafted network inputSends oversized data to a vulnerable component
- 3Buffer overflowMemory overwritten in the OS
- 4Code runs as rootArbitrary commands with privileged rights
- ResultAttacker gains full control of the device
What happened
A buffer overflow in the underlying operating system of AOS allows unauthenticated remote code execution with privileged (root-level) rights.
Why it is dangerous: An attacker who reaches the device over the network can run arbitrary code as a privileged user, so they can take over the device and anything it controls. Any network-reachable AOS deployment is at risk.
Are you affected?
You are affected if you run AOS with the underlying operating system exposed to the network, in a version listed as affected by the advisory.
What to do
- Check the vendor advisory (GHSA-3r73-gmqf-px5q) to confirm whether your AOS version is affected
- Apply the vendor's patch or update to a fixed AOS version as soon as it is available
- Until patched, restrict network access to AOS management and services to trusted hosts only
