What happened

An OS command injection flaw affects multiple HiRDB Server versions 9 and 10 (including Additional Function and 9(32) variants), where unsanitized input can be passed to operating system commands.

Why it is dangerous: A successful attacker could execute arbitrary commands with the server's privileges, potentially reading or changing database data and moving further into the network. Organizations running affected HiRDB versions are at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run HiRDB Server Version 10 before 10-12-01, or HiRDB Server Version 9 (including the Additional Function and 9(32) editions) in the 09-00 to 09-66-22 range (or 09-66/V for Additional Function).

HiRDB Server Version 10: 10-00 before 10-12-01; HiRDB Server Version 9: 09-00 through 09-66-22; HiRDB Server with Additional Function Version 9: 09-00 through 09-66/V; HiRDB Server Version 9(32): 09-02 through 09-66-22; HiRDB Server with Additional Function Version 9(32): 09-00 through 09-66-/V

What to do

  1. Upgrade HiRDB Server Version 10 to 10-12-01 or later
  2. Check for a fixed release or vendor guidance for HiRDB Version 9 and apply it, since none is listed in the advisory material
  3. Restrict network access to the HiRDB server to trusted hosts only until patched
  4. Review server logs for unexpected system commands or processes
