How the attack works simplified

  2. 2Sends HTTP requestsTargets SOA Suite Fabric Layer over HTTP
  3. 3Exploits Fabric Layer flawBypasses intended access restrictions
  4. 4Gains control of SOA SuiteConfidentiality, integrity, availability all hit
  5. ResultAttacker takes over SOA Suite and connected products

What happened

A critical vulnerability in the Fabric Layer component of Oracle SOA Suite (versions 12.2.1.4.0 and 14.1.2.0.0) can be exploited over HTTP by a low-privileged attacker with network access, leading to full takeover of the product with a scope change.

Why it is dangerous: A successful attack gives the attacker high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact on SOA Suite and possibly other connected products, so organizations running Oracle middleware for integrations are at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run Oracle SOA Suite 12.2.1.4.0 or 14.1.2.0.0 with its HTTP interfaces reachable by an attacker on your network.

Oracle SOA Suite 12.2.1.4.0; Oracle SOA Suite 14.1.2.0.0 (Fusion Middleware, Fabric Layer component)

What to do

  1. Check whether your Oracle SOA Suite version is 12.2.1.4.0 or 14.1.2.0.0
  2. Restrict network access to SOA Suite HTTP endpoints to trusted hosts only
  3. Apply the official Oracle Critical Patch Update fix as soon as it is available for your version
