How the attack works simplified

  1. 1Remote attackerNo login or account needed
  2. 2HTTP requestSent over the network to SOA Suite
  3. 3Fabric Layer flawFlawed component accepts the malicious request
  4. 4Server compromisedAttacker gains control of the system
  5. ResultAttacker takes over Oracle SOA Suite

What happened

A flaw in the Fabric Layer component of Oracle SOA Suite lets an unauthenticated attacker send HTTP requests to compromise the product. Successful exploitation results in full takeover of Oracle SOA Suite.

Why it is dangerous: Confidentiality, integrity and availability are all at high impact, so attackers could steal data, alter business processes, or disrupt services. Organizations that expose SOA Suite to a network are at risk.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run Oracle SOA Suite 12.2.1.4.0 or 14.1.2.0.0 with its HTTP interface reachable over the network.

Oracle SOA Suite (Oracle Fusion Middleware, Fabric Layer component): 12.2.1.4.0 and 14.1.2.0.0

What to do

  1. Check whether your Oracle SOA Suite runs version 12.2.1.4.0 or 14.1.2.0.0
  2. Apply the security update from Oracle's Critical Patch Update for this CVE as soon as possible
  3. Restrict network access to the SOA Suite HTTP endpoints to trusted hosts only until patched
