How the attack works simplified

  1. 1Signed-in userHas a valid login but limited rights
  2. 2Crafted requestAdds access-denied page path to URL
  3. 3Policy check skippedRole, scope, and UMA checks bypassed
  4. 4Protected resourceAccessed without authorization
  5. ResultUnauthorized access to protected resources

What happened

In Keycloak Policy Enforcer, including the configured access-denied page path in a request URL, as a path segment or query parameter, bypasses role, scope, and UMA permission checks.

Why it is dangerous: An authenticated user can reach protected resources they should not be allowed to see or use, so sensitive data or functions behind Keycloak policies may be exposed.

Are you affected?

You are affected if you run keycloak-services below 26.6.4 or keycloak-policy-enforcer below 26.0.10 and use Policy Enforcer with role, scope, or UMA policies.
